Meet MeganMegan is a mom to two young boys, and being a Dietitian, is also very passionate about helping children and parents experience a better quality of life through nutrition. Megan spent some time working in London at the Evelina Children’s Hospital (St Thomas’ Hospital) as an Inherited Metabolic Diseases Dietitian which lead her to be trained as a Paediatric Advanced Diabetes Dietitian.
Here she became a key role player in setting up a joint insulin pump and diabetes service for Kings College and Evelina Children's Hospital. It allowed her to present research in Europe as well as walk a road with many families supporting them and teach them about "carb counting". Megan then assumed the same role at St. George's Hospital in London, teaching more families how to manage their diabetes with carbohydrate counting and insulin therapy. During these years she was exposed to a myriad of additional fields including fussy eaters, neurological disorders, oncology patients as well as working in the Paediatric ICU. In 2015, Megan moved back to South Africa and has been working with UKZN mentoring and tutoring final year Dietetic students. She has also completed her Masters in Dietetics in the area of carbohydrate counting and now runs her own private practice conducting both online consultations with families, as well as arranging home consultations in the KZN Midlands area if not in her Howick or Pietermaritzburg offices. |
